Question to the Ministry of Justice:
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what assessment the Government has made of the potential merits of bringing forward legislative proposals for a victims' law.
Our vision is one of a justice system that supports even more victims to speak up with the certainty that they will be understood, protected, and supported whether or not they report a crime, and regardless of their circumstances or background.
That is why we committed in the Victims Strategy, published on 10 September 2018, to bring forward proposals for a consultation on the detail of a Victims’ Law in 2019. In taking this work forward we have already begun discussions with both victims and victims’ groups.
I am fully assured that we are on target to deliver this as well as the other commitments set out in the Strategy and we will, of course, work closely with Parliamentary Authorities on legislative slots once we are clear on the proposals for legislation.
