Probation: Public Sector

Question to the Ministry of Justice:
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what assessment he has made of the costs associated with reunification of the probation service into the public sector in comparison to re-letting contracts to private providers.

We are currently considering the options for the future of probation services to ensure we achieve the right balance between public, private and voluntary providers. This includes assessing the costs of service delivery, in addition to other factors which play a part in the decision. We will set out more detailed plans shortly, but it is important that we take the time to get this decision right.
