Question to the Ministry of Justice:

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what estimate he has made of the number of hearings at the (a) Crown and (b) Magistrates Court in the 2022-23 financial year that were mostly conducted using (i) audio or (ii) video technology; and what estimate he has made of the number of hearings in each category that had to be adjourned due to technical difficulties with that technology.

The information requested is not held centrally. In order to provide this information HMCTS would have to commission each Court site to manually record remote hearing numbers and reasons for their adjournments. The information requested could only be obtained at disproportionate cost.
