Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:
To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, whether she has made an estimate of the number of local authorities whose Council Tax Reduction schemes take the earnings of non-dependent young adults into account when determining entitlement.
Decisions on working age Council Tax Reduction schemes are a matter for local authorities. Council tax support for working age households is designed by councils in consultation with their residents, taking into account the resources available to them and the needs and circumstances of their local communities.
The Government has not made a specific assessment of the impact of Council Tax Reduction schemes on households where a young adult enters employment.
