Question to the Ministry of Defence:
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what role did HMS Echo fulfil.
HMS ECHO was the first of two Echo-class survey ships (alongside HMS ENTERPRISE which is still in service) designed for hydrographic and oceanographic operations across the world.
The Royal Navy is moving towards the delivery of an exciting new hydrographic capability programme known as the Future Military Data Gathering Programme. This will transform the collection and exploitation of hydrographic and oceanographic information to more effectively meet the maritime geospatial data needs of Defence.
