Question to the Ministry of Defence:

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, further to the written statement of 13 July 2026, HCWS226, on Ukraine Support, what is the financial contribution that the UK will be required to make to the EU for participation in the Ukraine Support Loan programme as a third country, and whether it will be based on the size of the UK GDP relative to EU GDP; and what is the estimated UK liability for interest payments in each year.

The UK and the EU welcomed the agreement of UK participation in the EU's Ukraine Support Loan (USL) on 13 July. Through this agreement, UK defence companies will be eligible to bid for procurement contracts funded by the loan. In return, the UK will make a contribution to the borrowing costs of the loan proportionate to the value of contracts secured by UK industry.
