Question to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities:

To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, what plans his Department has to push back the council tax 10-month payment period, so that payments can be made from June 2020 to March 2021, to allow for the council tax break to fall during the estimated peak of covid-19.

Local authorities have the flexibility to spread council tax payments over any consecutive ten months of the year. The Government is aware that some councils have already used this flexibility to help local people in the light of COVID-19. The Government has also made available a £500 million Hardship Fund to enable councils to provide additional local council tax support to the most vulnerable households.
