In 2007, the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition examined the scientific evidence on trans fats and health. The Committee endorsed the recommendation, made in 1994, that the average trans fat intake of the population should not exceed 2% of food energy.

The most recent National Diet and Nutrition Survey indicates that the United Kingdom’s current average trans fat intakes are about 0.7 - 0.8% of food energy for children and adults.
