Question to the Ministry of Justice:
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what assessment she has made of the effect of current timescales for the return of forensic evidence on the length of time court cases are taking to progress.
The timetabling of necessary pre-trial preparation and the giving of appropriate directions for an effective trial listing is a judicial matter. The parties will advise the court at a preliminary hearing of any issues affecting readiness for trial, including the availability of required forensic evidence, and it rests with the court to make appropriate decisions about the trial date.
