Question to the Ministry of Defence:
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, how many former soldiers and officers who have now left the regular Army in each year since 2001 have subsequently joined the Army Reserves.
Below is a table showing the number of former soldiers and officers who left the Regular Army and have since joined the Army Reserve.
Calendar Year | Officers | Other Ranks |
2008 | 100 | 570 |
2009 | 80 | 500 |
2010 | 50 | 610 |
2011 | 100 | 630 |
2012 | 180 | 770 |
2013 | 220 | 960 |
2014 | 220 | 1,230 |
2015 | 220 | 1,210 |
2016 - 31 August | 120 | 600 |
It has only been possible to produce figures from 2008 onwards and personnel have been counted against the calendar year in which they left the Regular Army. They may have joined the Army Reserve at any time since, up to 31 August 2016.
The definition of the Army Reserve changed in April 2012. Figures from 2012 onwards refer to the Army Future Reserves 2020 population.
Any individuals who have left the Regular Army and joined the Army Reserve more than once will be counted multiple times in the figures.
