Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what estimate he has made of the number of non-UK nationals employed by the NHS in each year between 2016 and 2021.
NHS Digital publishes Hospital and Community Health Services (HCHS) workforce statistics. These include staff working in hospital trusts and clinical commissioning groups in England, but not staff working in primary care, local authorities or other providers. The following table shows the number of non-United Kingdom nationals employed in the HCHS sector in each year from 2016 to 2021, headcount.
September 2016 | September 2017 | September 2018 | September 2019 | September 2020 | June 2021 |
133,093 | 139,019 | 146,309 | 161,173 | 176,794 | 194,317 |
