Question to the Ministry of Justice:

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, whether local authorities are permitted to offer promession services to bereaved families; and if she will make a statement.

Promession involves neither burial nor the burning of human remains and is therefore outside the scope of the existing legislation on burials and cremation. However, local authorities may offer the process, provided that they comply with other relevant legislation, such as environmental legislation.
