Question to the Ministry of Defence:

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, how many low flying incidents involved livestock in each of the last five years; and what the cost was of compensation paid in relation to each of those incidents.

The number of compensation claims paid by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) for livestock in each of the last five years are:

2012 - 34 Incidents £142,822.67

2013 - 37 Incidents £167,559.58

2014 - 32 Incidents £192,836.78

2015 - 25 Incidents £124,016.50

2016 - 18 Incidents £215,304.89

As a comparison the number of claims paid by the MOD under the then Labour Government were:

2006 - 63 Incidents £244,325.44

2007 - 90 Incidents £275,702.45

2008 - 80 Incidents £430,908.05

2009 - 63 Incidents £367,937.31
