Question to the Department for Education:

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, how many young carers are registered at schools in (a) the UK, (b) Greater London, (c) the London Borough of Newham and (d) the East Ham constituency.

The Department does not collect data on the numbers of young carers registered at schools. According to figures from the national census published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), there were around 166,000 young carers aged 5 to 17 in England in 2011.
