Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what steps she is taking to address errors that have occurred in the continuing health care assessments.
Integrated care boards (ICBs) are responsible for decisions on eligibility for NHS Continuing Healthcare based on the recommendation of a multidisciplinary team, which includes health and social care professionals. Those decisions are made in accordance with the National Framework for NHS Continuing Healthcare and NHS-funded Nursing Care.
NHS England holds ICBs to account for how these responsibilities are discharged, including ensuring there is a timely assurance process. In addition, where an individual disagrees with the outcome of an assessment for NHS Continuing Healthcare, there is a three-stage appeals process.
