Question to the Ministry of Justice:

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, how many people have been recalled to prison after being released on licence in each of the last 12 months; and if she will make a statement.

We are committed to protecting the public, reforming offenders and to reducing reoffending. The licence part of a custodial sentence is designed to rehabilitate offenders – by supervising them in the community and requiring them to comply with conditions. If offenders breach their licence conditions they can be recalled to custody.

The number of offenders recalled to prison after being released on licence in each of the last 12 months is as follows:
