Question to the Ministry of Justice:

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, with reference to the oral contribution of the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Justice of 1 March 2017, Official Report, column 100WH, on suicide and self-harm in prison (England), when will the findings of the inquiry into deaths in custody be published; and whether that inquiry will include deaths in prison custody.

We are reviewing the circumstances of recent self-inflicted deaths in prison custody, with a particular focus on cases where there were known mental health concerns.

This is an internal review, but we will make the key findings public as soon as they are available. Inquests into many of the deaths that are being reviewed have yet to take place, and in some cases there is ongoing litigation, so it would not be appropriate to publish details of individual cases.
