We have answered your question on the assumption that it relates to the estimated cost of delivering the additional prison places.

The estimated capital costs currently expected to be incurred in delivering the 20,000 additional prison places in the relevant years is in line with our Spending Review capital settlement, which is as follows:

  • 2022-23 - c£1,050m
  • 2023-24 - c£1,730m
  • 2024-25 - c£980m

We are unable to provide the capital cost of places opened in each of these years, as the relevant information is commercially sensitive.
