Prison Accommodation: Ventilation

Question to the Ministry of Justice:

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, with reference to Annual Report of the Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) at HMP Winchester, published on 29 October 2021, what recent assessment he has made of the adequacy of current Prison Service standards for ventilation in ensuring that prison accommodation does not become harmfully hot.

Prison Service Instruction 17/2012 (Certified Prisoner Accommodation) sets out arrangements for the certification and management control of prisoner accommodation, specifically that all accommodation must have heating, lighting and ventilation to recognised technical standards.
