Question to the Ministry of Justice:
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, how many (a) prosecutions have been brought and (b) convictions have been secured against (i) people overseas and (ii) people in (A) England and (B) Wales under (1) section 2 of the Obscene Publications Act 1959, (2) section 1 of the Protection of Children Act 1978, (3) section 63 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008 and (4) section 62 of the Coroners and Justice Act 2009.
The number of defendants proceeded against at magistrates’ courts for offences under this legislation, in England and Wales, from 2011 to 2015, can be viewed in table 1 attached.
The number of offenders found guilty at all courts of offences under this legislation, in England and Wales, from 2011 to 2015, can be viewed in table 2 attached.
Information on whether or not such an offence was committed overseas is not held centrally by the Ministry of Justice and can only be obtained at disproportionate cost.
