Question to the Ministry of Justice:
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what proportion of (a) male and (b) female prisons contains prisoners identified as transgender.
According to a data collection exercise that took place between March and April 2016, there were 70 prisoners currently living in, or presenting in, a gender different to their sex assigned at birth. 26% of men’s prisons and 31% of women’s prisons contained at least one prisoner that identified as transgender.
