Question to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what information his Department holds on the number of journalists employed (a) in total and (b) at national newspapers in each of the last five years.

The Department does not collect this information. However, the Office for National Statistics Labour Force Survey does collect data on the number of "journalists, newspaper and periodical editors" in employment. The figures for the last 5 years can be found in the table below.
