Question to the Ministry of Defence:
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what plans he has to introduce new safety regulations to ensure Royal Navy submarines keep clear of fishing boats and ferries.
The safety of submarines and other vessels is paramount. The Royal Navy's policy and mandatory procedures for submarines to ensure safety of shipping are contained in the Code of Practice for Fishing Vessel Avoidance. This was agreed by the Fishing Industry Safety Group, and is afforded a high priority in submarine crew training. The Code was most recently reviewed in November 2016 and remains the extant policy.
