Question to the Home Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, whether she has plans to increase the number of regular pathways for people to migrate to the UK from (a) Ukraine, (b) Afghanistan and (c) Hong Kong.
There are currently no plans to expand the number of regular pathways as those listed may be eligible to relocate to the UK through existing safe and legal routes.
In response to the Ukraine crisis, this government has introduced three schemes: the Ukraine Extension Scheme (UES), the Ukraine Family Scheme (UFS), and for those without family links to the UK, the Homes for Ukraine (HFU) Scheme.
In response to events in Afghanistan we launched the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme (ACRS) which will see up to 20,000 people resettled to the UK. This is in addition to the Afghan Relocation and Assistance Policy (ARAP) which offers Afghan nationals who have worked for, or alongside, the UK Government relocation the UK.
In response to China’s passing of the National Security Law in Hong Kong, the government introduced the Hong Kong British National (Overseas) (BN(O)) route which offers those with BN(O) status and their eligible family members the opportunity to come to the UK to live, study and work on a pathway to citizenship.
In addition, the UK continues to welcome vulnerable refugees in need of protection in other parts of the world through the UK Resettlement Scheme (UKRS), Community Sponsorship and Mandate Resettlement Schemes.
