Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what steps he is taking to ensure that clinicians are encouraged to undertake malnutrition assessments in line with NICE guidelines.

Information on screening for malnutrition is not held centrally. Local health and care providers are responsible for malnutrition services based on the needs of the local population. Integrated care boards coordinate and commission health and care services to improve population health and reduce inequalities. There are tools and guidance in place through a range of organisations, including the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, to assist health and social care professionals identify and treat malnutrition, and to access appropriate training.
