Question to the Ministry of Justice:

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, whether translators in criminal trials are remunerated in cases where the foreign-speaking defendant does not turn up for their trial.

If an interpreter has attended a booking, but is no longer required to deliver service, at a minimum they will be paid a cancellation fee. Depending on the circumstances the interpreter may also receive a payment for the time spent waiting to provide a service at the venue.
