Dogs: Theft

Question to the Ministry of Justice:

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, how many dog thefts have resulted in (a) prosecution and (b) conviction in each of the last three years.

Information on theft offences held by the Ministry of Justice does not identify if a dog specifically was stolen. The information may be held on court record but to be able to identify cases in which dogs were stolen would require access to individual court records which would be of disproportionate cost.

The Ministry of Justice has published information on sentences for defendants prosecuted, convicted, and sentenced for more general theft offences, up to December 2020, available in the ‘Outcomes by Offence’ data tool, here:
