Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, whether the new value-based procurement assessment methodology published by the Department’s Medical Technology and Innovation Directorate will be adopted in full for all future NHS Supply Chain procurements, including those for absorbent continence products, wound care products, urology and stoma products.

On 11 June 2026, the Department published the Value Based Procurement (VBP) Standard Guidance for Medical Technology (medtech). The new guidance is intended to be used in both national and regional frameworks and individual procurement exercises undertaken by local National Health Service organisations.

The NHS Supply Chain is fully committed to adopting the VBP methodology. Individual sourcing strategies are assessed on their merits, and a robust approach will be taken to support adoption wherever relevant.
