Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask Her Majesty's Government, further to the Written Answer by Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon on 12 December 2018 (HL11891), whether they have raised with the government of the United Arab Emirates (1) the retrospective application of Law 37 to Ryan Cornelius, (2) the principle of double jeopardy following his additional sentence of 20 years in prison, and (3) whether his imprisonment is in breach of the law of the UAE; and if not, why not.

​The Foreign and Commonwealth Office cannot interfere in another country's processes and must respect their systems, just as we expect them to respect the UK's laws and legal processes.
