Question to the Ministry of Defence:
To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they have any plans to include serving military personnel in the awarding of the British Empire Medal.
The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has no plans to award the British Empire Medal to serving military personnel. Service personnel are eligible for a range of state honours for their work in the MOD or in other aspects of UK Defence; the military division of Her Majesty The Queen's Birthday Honours List for 2017 saw a total of 113 Service personnel granted such honours. In addition to state honours, medals can also be awarded to Her Majesty's Armed Forces to recognise gallantry or bravery, Service on operations, Long Service and Good Conduct, and for commemorative events.
