Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask His Majesty's Government whether they have plans (1) to expand the National Genomic Test Directory to include non-genomic molecular biomarker tests, or (2) to create a universal test directory to cover genomic and molecular biomarker tests, to improve targeted cancer treatments.
Genomic testing in the National Health Service in England is provided through the NHS Genomic Medicine Service, delivered by a national genomic testing network of seven NHS Genomic Laboratory Hubs as directed by the National Genomic Test Directory.
In October 2022, NHS England published Accelerating genomic medicine in the NHS, which includes a commitment that the NHS will continue to review the evidence to inform and update the National Genomic Test Directory to reflect the latest scientific and technological developments. A copy of the document is attached.
In the future, it is possible that other functional genomic tests that are important for stratifying treatments may be included, based on any evidence presented.
