The UK is confident that we will achieve a deal which ensures the continued recognition of our driving licence for UK motorists driving in the EU after we have left.

However, the Department knows that motorists and hauliers need to plan ahead and is putting measures in place that will enable the Department to issue International Driving Permits to UK licence holders, should it be needed, as part of our deal with the EU. Motorists who hold an International Driving Permit as a supplementary document alongside their licence will have certainty that their licence will be recognised when driving in the EU, irrespective of the outcome of our negotiations.
