The correct proportions of the Union Flag on land are 5 : 3. The proportions were established by Garter PrincipalKing of Arms in 1938 as the principle adviser to the Sovereign of the United Kingdom with respect to national symbols, ceremonial and heraldry. The present Garter continues to inform and advise government and the Crown on such matters.
