Strokes: Children

Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask Her Majesty’s Government how many children experienced a stroke in England in the past year.


This question was answered on 4th May 2016

Information on the number of children who experienced a stroke is not collected centrally. Information is collected on the number of finished admissions of young people with a primary diagnosis of stoke or mini stroke. This is given in the following table.

Notes: An FAE is the first period of admitted patient care under one consultant within one healthcare provider. FAEs are counted against the year or month in which the admission episode finishes. Admissions do not represent the number of patients, as a person may have more than one admission within the period.
