Written Question
Human Rights
Tuesday 6th September 2016

Asked by: Alison Thewliss (Scottish National Party - Glasgow Central)

Question to the Ministry of Justice:

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what assessment she has made of the potential effect of the UK leaving the EU on the protection of the human rights of UK citizens.

Answered by Oliver Heald

The UK has led the world in human rights, from Magna Carta to Habeas Corpus. The Government is committed to bringing forward a British Bill of Rights to further build on these ancient protections. We are working to maximise the benefits of Brexit, promoting the UK’s fantastic legal services sector which has a 10% share of the global legal services fees revenue.
