To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what proportion of newly qualified teachers were still teaching three years after completing their qualifications in each of the last five years.

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what the average retirement age was for teachers in each of the last five years for which figures are available.

Answered by David Laws

The average age at which teachers in publicly-funded schools in England drew their retirement benefits in every year between 2008-09 and 2012-13 was 59.
