Welsh Written Answers
WQ85041
Asked by: Janet Finch-Saunders (Welsh Conservative Party - Aberconwy)
Wednesday 4th May 2022

Question

Will the Minister confirm how many times the Lady Megan fisheries patrol vessel has left Conwy Marina over the last two years?

Answered by Minister for Rural Affairs and North Wales, and Trefnydd

Fisheries Patrol Vessel (FPV) Lady Megan has undertaken 9 patrols out of Conwy during the last two years, 11 patrols have also been undertaken from other North Wales marinas during this period. A shortfall in crew, and maintenance work, has impacted the number of days Lady Megan has been able to patrol. We are taking steps to address this issue.

At sea enforcement in North Wales has also been undertaken by FPV Catrin and FPV Rhodri Morgan during this period.

WQ81913
Asked by: Janet Finch-Saunders (Welsh Conservative Party - Aberconwy)
Thursday 21st January 2021

Question

Will the Minister state how many times each fishery patrol vessel has been out on patrol in each of the last 12 months separately?

Answered by Minister for Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs

The Fisheries Patrol Vessels (FPVs) did not undertake any patrols between 18 January and 22 March 2020 as new vessel safety management systems were developed. The vessels were also unable to complete patrols between 23 March and 20 July 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions.

We continue to improve the performance of our FPVs and despite these restrictions, between July 2020 and January 2021 our FPVs completed 67 at-sea patrols; this is an increase in the number of patrols of over 80% when compared to the previous year. The breakdown by vessel and month is below.
