Every death in custody is a tragedy, and we are committed to reducing the number of self-inflicted deaths in prisons.

Data on deaths in custody is included in the quarterly ‘Safety in Custody’ statistics, available at https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/safety-in-custody-statistics

These are accompanied by more detailed annual data tables, including, table 1.12 showing the method used in all self-inflicted deaths in prison custody from 1999 to 2014.
