Question to the Ministry of Justice:
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what financial penalties have been incurred by Serco in relation to its contract for the provision of prisoner escort and custody services since 29 August 2011.
The Ministry of Justice holds 4 regional contracts for the delivery of prisoner escort and custody. 3 of these are with GeoAmey and total £685 million over 7 year years. Across the four regions these contracts move circa 800,000 prisoners per year.
The table below details indicates the cost of the performance measures applied against contract delivery indicators in the form of liquidated damages since 29 August 2011.

The Authority holds one contract with Serco for the escort of children and young people in secure training centres and secure children's homes which commenced on the 29th August 2012 not the 17th April 2012 as stated within your question. There have been no financial penalties applied to it.
