Submarines: Decommissioning

Question to the Ministry of Defence:
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, how many Royal Navy submarines are due to be scrapped; and for how long those submarines have been decommissioned.

There are 27 submarines due to be dismantled as part of the Submarine Dismantling Programme. The oldest submarine was retired from service in 1980. 19 have been decommissioned and a further eight submarines that are still in service will also be in scope.
