Question to the Ministry of Defence:
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, whether he has considered the potential merits of introducing the FN EVOLYS 7.62 mm ultralight machine gun for use by the armed forces.

The Department is in the very early stages of the procurement of a light assault machine gun. Requirements are being set and experimentation has commenced. There are several commercial options which may be suitable and in time competition will be held to select the most appropriate system.
