Question to the Ministry of Justice:
To ask Her Majesty's Government how many people were granted compassionate release from prison on the grounds of ill-health in (1) 2017, and (2) 2018 to date.

The number of prisoners granted early release on compassionate grounds for reasons of ill-health in 2017 and 2018 to date are as follows:

These figures have been drawn from internal records and the Public Protection Unit Database in HM Prison and Probation Service. As with any large scale recording systems, they are subject to possible errors with data migration and data processing.
