Written Question
Tranexamic Acid
Tuesday 7th May 2019

Asked by: Tom Tugendhat (Conservative - Tonbridge)

Question to the Department for International Development:

To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, what the outcome was of her discussions with the UN and NGO partners on improving access to tranexamic acid for women with post-partum haemorrhage.

Answered by Harriett Baldwin - Shadow Minister (Business and Trade)

Discussions on improving access to tranexamic acid for women with post-partum haemorrhage continue. It is unacceptable that 830 mothers still die in pregnancy and childbirth every day. Tranexamic acid is a powerful tool to manage the severe bleeding that causes many of these deaths. We are supporting the Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition – a network of over 500 private corporations, NGOs and donors – to look specifically at the barriers to scaling up use of this important drug.
