To ask His Majesty's Government what steps they are taking to maintain the UK’s international leadership on tackling antimicrobial resistance by building on the momentum generated by the UK’s G7 presidency in 2021.

We continue to work with G7 partners to implement commitments made on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), including those secured during the United Kingdom’s 2021 presidency. The UK Special Envoy on AMR, Professor Dame Sally Davies, also recently attended the Third High-level Ministerial Conference on AMR in Oman. In November 2022, the Government issued a call for evidence to seek expert contributions to the next five-year AMR national action plan, which has been shared with international counterparts.

There are currently three Omani military personnel stationed in the UK, for liaison and engagement purposes. In addition, the UK works closely with all our international partners including Oman to support short-term training courses.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what assessment he has made for the implications of his policies of reports that the Islamic revolutionary guard corps launched an explosive drone at an oil tanker off the coast of Oman.

The UK condemns the recent drone attack on MV PACIFIC ZIRCON. We remain committed to assuring the safety of shipping in the Middle East region, including through the Gulf of Oman. The UK is a member of the International Maritime Security Construct, along with several Gulf partners, which addresses the threat in the region by providing reassurance to commercial shipping and deterring further threats. We note recent reporting that Iran may be behind the attack. We will work with partners to ensure that those responsible are held to account.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, whether his Department has taken recent steps to protect troops deployed on Exercise Desert Khanjar from heat illness.

As high temperatures were expected for Exercise Desert Khanjar, the Army applied Defence-wide health and safety risk management policies from the outset.
This included (but was not limited to) all personnel undertaking mandatory heat injury prevention training to ensure awareness at all levels and undergoing a full period of acclimatisation on arrival in Oman.
All activities are regularly reviewed and, where necessary, adapted to ensure training objectives are still achieved safely.

To ask His Majesty's Government how many cats have been imported this year under the Balai Directive; and from which countries those cats originated.

Since we left the EU, the EU import data for 2021 and 2022 was collated from PIMS which is APHA’s Post Import Management System and accounts for all Imports into the United Kingdom that have been entered using IPAFFS (Import of products, animals, food and feed system).
This information is drawn from the external IPAFF’s system not directly controlled by the department.
From 14th April 2022 the United Kingdom temporarily suspended the commercial import of dogs, cats and ferrets if they originated from or have been dispatched from Belarus, Poland, Romania or Ukraine, until 29th October 2022.
