Bills before Parliament

Government Bills utilise Government Parliamentary time, timetabling motions and (subject to total time available in the session) are likely to pass.

Private Member's Bills can be proposed by any member in the Commons or Lords, but have limited time to complete their passage. Of hundreds proposed, only a few will become law each year.

Royal Assent signifies the bill has completed passage by Parliament, and the Sovereign has signed the bill into law.
